Put a screenshot on a background
One minute. Chrome or Edge, on any operating system. No account, no upload.
A bare screenshot in a post or a README is a rectangle with a hard edge. Put it on a background with rounded corners and a shadow, and it looks like something someone chose to show. Kape does this to a still image the same way it does to a video, and saves a PNG.
Kape is a free web app. It opens the image from your disk, does the work in the browser tab, and writes the PNG back to your disk. Nothing is uploaded.
Open the studio →Steps
- Open the studio and drop the screenshot in. PNG, JPEG and WebP all work.
- Choose a background. Open the Background panel. Pick a Wallpaper, a Gradient, a plain Colour, or an Image of your own.
- Set padding, corners and shadow. In the Frame panel raise Padding and Radius. In the Shadow panel set the offset, blur and opacity.
- Crop, if the screenshot has more in it than you need. Drag the crop handles over the image. The export follows what is left.
- Pick the output shape. The Output aspect control sets the frame: 16:9 for a README or a blog, 1:1 or 4:5 for a feed, 9:16 for a phone.
- Export. Press Export. A screenshot comes out as a PNG.
Why not a design tool?
You can do this in Figma or a screenshot app with a paid tier. Kape does one job, does it in the browser without an account, and does the same thing to a screen recording when you have one of those instead.
